What ESSI Does

Bringing together stakeholders from across the space ecosystem to build a sustainable future in orbit.

Our Mission

The Earth∞Space Sustainability Initiative (ESSI) brings together industry, academia, governments, and finance communities to collaborate on space sustainability solutions. We serve as a neutral platform where all stakeholders can work together to address the challenges facing the space environment.

Key Activities

Standards & Guidelines

We maintain a comprehensive database of nearly 2,000 space sustainability standards and guidelines, making it easier for operators to find and implement best practices.

Collaboration & Convening

ESSI provides a forum for dialogue between space operators, regulators, researchers, and other stakeholders to develop consensus-based approaches to sustainability challenges.

Research & Analysis

We support evidence-based policy making by conducting and commissioning research on space sustainability topics, including space debris, spectrum management, and orbital capacity.

Advocacy & Outreach

We raise awareness about space sustainability issues among policymakers, the public, and the wider space community through publications, events, and media engagement.

The Memorandum of Principles

At the heart of ESSI's work is the Memorandum of Principles for Space Sustainability. This document, signed by leading organizations across the space sector, establishes a shared commitment to sustainable practices in space operations.
